Arun B

Arun B is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, installation, and drawing. Originally from Kerala and now based in Baroda, his practice engages with the complex relationship between humans and nature, often questioning how artistic creation can coexist with the environment without imposing upon it.

Trained in sculpture, Arun’s work has evolved from shaping static forms to creating interactive spaces that activate dialogue, memory, and perception. He works extensively with organic materials, metal, and found objects, exploring their cultural and historical resonances while transforming them into sites of reflection and engagement.

His recent solo exhibition, The Sacred & The Splintered, was presented at Method Kala Ghoda in 2025. Other exhibitions include Waiting Room at Gallery 27, Kochi (2025), Up the Junction in Jaipur (2024), and From Field to Frame at both Conflictorium, Ahmedabad and Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda (2024). Arun has also participated in state exhibitions with the Kerala Lalithkala Akademi, as well as numerous workshops and camps focused on ceramics, terracotta, and stone carving.

Through his explorations of space, materiality, and memory, Arun seeks to create encounters where viewers are invited to engage in an ever-evolving process of perception and meaning-making.

The Sacred & The Splintered

The Sacred & The Splintered asks: What does it mean for a sculpture to speak? What happens when space performs back?

In Arun B.’s installations, materials, gestures, and the viewer’s body collide in acts of silent yet forceful communication. Sculpture here is not static—it becomes a site of tension, ritual, and transformation, where traces of devotion, vulnerability, and violence coexist. These works unfold as heterotopic spaces—other worlds that invoke discomfort, introspection, and the possibility of becoming.

Arun’s practice grapples with the paradox of seeking meaning in an indifferent universe. For him, creation is an act of rebellion and freedom. Over time, his focus has shifted from shaping fixed forms to activating space as a living encounter. Working with found objects, he preserves their histories while integrating them into new contexts, exploring how memory and culture shape perception.

His move from Kerala to Gujarat reshaped his awareness of self and place. Rather than occupying or controlling space, these sculptures invite dialogue and reflexivity. As viewers engage, they are drawn in—or held back—by the performative tension of the work.

The Sacred & The Splintered becomes a charged threshold where memory, materiality, and the human impulse for meaning unfold in a state of continuous transformation.
