Jaidev Tripathy

Jaidev Tripathy

Captivated by spaces, stories, cities and human behaviour while studying architecture, Jaidev realised the built environment’s role in shaping everyday life, encompassing a variety of narratives. 26 years spent growing up and navigating three different major cities (Gurgaon, Delhi, and Mumbai) motivated him to seek and capture stories set in the urban context. In the process, he acquired multidisciplinary skillsets like illustration, writing, video-and-film, and visual communication, that manifest into a mosaic of narrative work under the umbrella of urban storytelling.

Adopting sketching as a primary medium of expression since childhood has parallely led to his independent journey as an urban sketcher, doodler, and illustrator. Mixing observation with intuition, his work captures everyday spaces and characters, the built-unbuilt urban fabric infused with a sense of transition, and the city’s rich cocktail of textures from a personal lens.

Publications, editorials, film posters, storyboards, book and album covers, architectural concepts and narrative-driven projects best showcase his work. Alongside a growing body of personal illustrations, he has engaged with a range of meaningful freelance projects and collaborations – including Museo Camera Museum, Blue Tokai, Method’s Monsoon Room exhibition, The Walking Project, indie hip- hop covers, storyboards for Vikas Maurya’s production house, pop-ups at Nrtya, Azadi Records, Art Curry, and more. Sketching is his escape from the intensity of rapidly evolving urban conditions, grounding him to reality, with a glass of cold coffee to keep him company.
