MOHITA SURI
In 2022, Mohita Suri joined Triveni Kala Sangam, where she worked for two years under the mentorship of Mr. Rameshwar Broota. After experimenting with various subjects, she focused her practice on exploring the female form. Fascinated by the texture, tonal values, and folds of skin, she delves into its representation in her work. Her early experiences as a teenage model and her time managing a chain of gyms heightened her sensitivity to the human body and its interaction with both natural and man-made elements.
The female form serves as the central subject of her art. She strives to depict it in a sensuous yet non-vulgar manner, addressing societal and self-imposed restrictions placed on women—limitations often internalized through lifelong exposure. Some of her paintings highlight the marks or indentations left on the skin by tight garments such as bras, panties, or even a wedding ring, drawing attention to the physical and symbolic imprints of these constraints. Her use of color varies based on the mood of the composition, often complemented by a white background to create a visual hierarchy.
In her more recent works, the female body transforms into a metaphorical landscape—hips become gentle hills, bellies form slopes, and mouths evoke spring-like openings. These pieces reimagine the body as an extension of nature, composed of valleys, rivers, mountains, and forests, blending the physical and the elemental into a unified whole.
