Sajid Wajid Shaikh

Sajid Wajid Shaikh

Sajid Wajid Shaikh (b. 1989, Navi Mumbai, India) is an interdisciplinary artist based between Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad. His practice positions the artist as a scribe—archiving and decoding the complexities of contemporary life. Drawing on memories of communal violence and the realities of living as a minority in India, he explores the intersections of oppression and resistance, amplifying silenced narratives of marginalized communities.

Working across installations, mechanical sculptures, films, drawings, and community projects, Shaikh uses poetic metaphors and visual dissonance to question systemic dysfunction and cycles of violence. His kinetic works employ machines as symbols of flawed systems, while his paintings and drawings delve into themes of conflict, aggression, and erasure.

For Shaikh, art is a cryptic letter to the future—both a record of lived experience and a safeguard against the loss of collective memory. His work connects local struggles to global justice, urging resistance, truth, and resilience.
