Shikha Soni

Shikha Soni (b. 1999, Baroda, India) is a visual artist based in Baroda, Gujarat. Her practice explores the nature of the self and the emotional complexity of being human, often through intimate portraits that emerge from her relationships with family, friends, and herself. Working primarily with drawing, painting, and photography, Shikha uses the act of painting not as escape, but as reflection—a way to trace her internal landscape and come face to face with personal truths.

The Family Album becomes a primary referent in her paintings to work with ideas of self-reflexivity, generational dynamics and the unfamiliar within the familiar. Through various painterly mediums and scales, her work seeks to translate the transparency of feeling through form. She holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR (2023), and a BFA in Painting from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2021).

Her work has been exhibited at Round Them Oranges, Jaipur (2024); Gallery DotWalk, Travancore Palace, Delhi (2024); the Immerse Fellowship, Mumbai (2024); Kochi-Muziris Students’ Biennale, Kochi (2022–23, 2021); Anant Art Gallery, Noida (2023); and the India Art Fair (2023). She has participated in various workshops, including CONA’s Art In-Betweeners (2020–21), paper- making and miniature painting workshops at MSU Baroda. In 2020, she was awarded the 60th Gujarat State Lalit Kala Akademi Award.
