SID PATTNI

Sid Pattni (b. 1986) is an Australian artist of Indian descent whose practice explores identity, cultural memory, and diasporic histories within a post-colonial framework. His work examines themes of belonging, displacement, and historical erasure, positioning art as both a form of resistance and reimagination. Through painting and embroidery, Sid unpacks the complexities of identity construction, particularly for diasporic communities navigating the tensions of marginalization and inclusion within colonial and settler-colonial structures.

His interdisciplinary approach integrates textiles and mixed media, allowing him to reconstruct traditional forms and challenge dominant historical narratives. By recontextualizing cultural symbols, he disrupts binary notions of identity, fostering new ways of understanding selfhood and heritage.

Sid has exhibited extensively, with group shows including the Emerging Exploration Exhibition (2024), Nadiya (2023), and All The Rage (2023), alongside several solo exhibitions. He was awarded the Kennedy Prize (2023), participated in the Khōj Cross-Hatchings Residency in New Delhi (2024), and received the Minderoo Artist Fund Grant (2022). In 2021, he was invited to speak at TEDx. His work is held in private collections across Australia.
