Tapan Moharana
Tapan Moharana (b. 1989, Odisha, India) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of land, displacement, and the politics of ecology. He holds an MFA in Sculpture from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2013).
Drawing inspiration from local and indigenous art forms such as shadow play and shadow theater, Moharana’s practice reflects a deep engagement with cultural traditions and contemporary concerns.
His artistic repertoire spans sculpture, painting, photography, and site-specific installations, while also extending into performative arts like shadow puppetry. By combining traditional storytelling techniques with modern artistic mediums, Moharana creates immersive experiences that evoke reflection on the intersections of nature, humanity, and identity.
Living and working between Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, and Delhi, Moharana continues to develop work that bridges ancient practices and contemporary perspectives, revealing the complexities of ecological and social landscapes.
