TOSHA JAGAD

After a decade-long career as a graphic designer, Tosha Jagad transitioned into ceramic art, a shift that was both gradual and deeply intentional. Her knowledge of ceramics has been shaped over time—through observation, conversations with fellow artists, and an ongoing curiosity about the material’s unique properties.

Since fully immersing herself in clay, her primary focus has been on techniques and forms. Over time, she recognized the undeniable influence of her graphic design background on her ceramic work—the way she perceives shapes, her preference for clean constructions, the repetition of forms, and even how she documents and presents her pieces. What draws her to ceramics, however, is its physicality—the tactile engagement that working digitally could never provide.

Tosha’s journey began with a series of small sculptural pieces called Block Cats, which organically evolved into multiple iterations and new forms. While her designs continue to develop, clay remains the constant—the medium through which she explores structure, texture, and composition. She primarily works with earthenware and terracotta, using locally sourced clay bodies. Her practice is largely centered around hand-building, valuing the meditative process of shaping each piece from a raw lump of clay. While wheel-throwing plays a minor role, it is the intimate, hands-on nature of sculpting that continues to fuel her creative process.
