Minimal Surfaces in Motion: A Bubble & Soap Film Workshop with Bharat Raj Thukral and Roshni Gera

Can bubbles teach us about design? Architects and designers Bharat Raj Thukral and Roshni Gera, whose interactive installation Ulta Pulta features in Holiday Homework, invite children to discover how soap films naturally create beautiful, efficient forms.

Using bubble wands, soap films, and simple geometric frames, participants will explore how delicate surfaces stretch, curve, and balance themselves, revealing the hidden geometry found throughout nature. Inspired by architect Frei Otto's pioneering experiments with soap films, the workshop transforms physics into play, encouraging children to learn through touch, curiosity, and experimentation.

By the end of the session, participants will have discovered how some of the world's most beautiful structures begin with something as simple—and magical—as a bubble.
