Devangana Mishra and her foundation for inclusion and autism, Brain Bristle is kicking off a season of book readings, poetry, theatre, music, literary tours of Bombay through the 80s with the release of Devangana’s third work of fiction and art, ‘May I Bombay?’. A poetic, riveting narrative of Savitri Dhavale making her way through the 1980s of India, with changing governments, songs, films, neighbourhoods, leaders and loyalities.
The 90 minute event on the 13th of September, will guide audiences through musical medleys of the 80s by a godly talented musician on the autism spectrum, Ananya Halarnkar; a street play set in the 80s unpacking the dark ages of the birth of autism and Devangana sharing eras of women writers—tracing a lineage from Anna Laetitia Barbauld in the 17th century to Emily Dickinson, Gwendolyn Brooks, Lucille Clifton, Ada Limón, Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde, Mary Oliver, interwoven with her own work with poetry, reading from 26, Kamala Nehru Ridge, Civil Lines Delhi set in pre- independence India and a gradual descent into her yet to launch, ‘May I Bombay?‘
