Antara Paul

Antara Paul

Antara Paul grew up in a conventional Bengali household in Kolkata. From a very young age, she was exposed to a variety of extra-curricular activities, alongside her parents’ strong emphasis on academics. Thanks to her drawing teacher, her art school became a breath of fresh air—a space where she could breathe freely by exploring and expressing her perspective of the world. This became her introduction to self-revelation. Since then, the fascination with giving form to her thoughts turned into a passion. After finishing school, she enrolled in the Sculpture Department at the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta. She went on to pursue a Master’s Degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda, graduating with two Gold Medals for academic excellence.

She has participated in numerous group exhibitions across Kolkata, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Bangladesh. She was awarded a National Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. In 2019, she was part of the Space Studio Artist Residency and was featured in The Times of India (Pune) for a giant kinetic installation at the Pune Biennale. She also conducted a site-specific installation project—based on research and documentation exploring perceptions of public and private space—under the guidance of Prof. Sanchayan Ghosh. Her work has received recognition from the Bombay Art Society and the Piraji Sagara Foundation.

After completing her degree, she continued her practice as a resident artist for three months at Space Studio, Baroda. During the pandemic, she continued working from her home in Kolkata, where she deeply explored her concepts. The experience of the new normal significantly influenced her artistic expression. She later moved to Mumbai, where she continues her practice, currently working on a new series that incorporates multiple mediums and techniques.
