TITHI DAS

Tithi Das explores memory, identity, and societal influence in her paintings, weaving personal and collective storytelling. Her work focuses on the layered experiences of individuals, particularly women like her mother, whose lives are shaped by cultural expectations and traditional roles. Capturing moments of joy, loss, intimacy, and vulnerability, her paintings reveal the emotional weight and societal gaze surrounding these experiences.
Currently, she is working on a series inspired by candid mobile photographs of her mother, who was raised in a conventional rural Bengali patriarchal setting. Denied education and self-determination, her mother becomes both a subject and a symbol of resilience, defying societal constraints that have long shaped the lives of women in similar contexts. These narratives resonate deeply with South Asian women, highlighting themes of sacrifice, strength, and self-expression.
Her artistic process embraces spontaneity, imperfection, and raw emotion, transforming personal archives into eerie, evocative compositions. Using metaphors and intricate imagery, she challenges societal norms while honoring love and resilience. Her recent acrylic paintings on canvas reflect this vision, blending personal history with universal themes.
