Vaishnavi Kurhe
Vaishnavi Kurhe is currently in her final year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting at Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. Her practice spans a range of subjects including composition, printmaking, landscape, and portraiture, and she enjoys working with various mediums such as acrylic, oil, and watercolour. She views her everyday routine as an integral part of her creative process—drawing inspiration from the seemingly mundane to inform her visual language.
Her work is rooted in introspection, emotion, and social commentary, often exploring themes such as femininity, gender discrimination, identity, freedom, and broader societal challenges. These subjects reflect her lived experiences, merging personal narratives with collective realities. Through her paintings, she aims to provoke thought and spark dialogue around issues that are often overlooked or silenced.
Vaishnavi approaches each artwork with a sensitivity to space, composition, and colour—using tone and form to evoke emotion and guide the viewer’s eye. For her, art is both a mode of self-expression and a tool for advocacy, offering a way to question norms, highlight injustices, and share stories that matter. Her evolving practice remains grounded in a desire to create work that is honest, impactful, and deeply engaged with the world around her.
