Sujat Roy is an independent artist based in New Delhi. He combines his fascination for pop art, folk and Internet meme culture to create utterly unique visuals that span painting, photography, graphic design, installation and video. His work is incredibly diverse and eccentric, and marked by a sense of wit and wordplay.
A graduate from the Srishti School of Art & Design, Sujat has led creative projects for clients such as FDCI Lakme Fashion Week, Sunburn Film Festival and Vogue, produced music videos for underground hip-hop artists including Yunsta, Frappe Ash and Roy & FreeSpeech amongst others, as well as led research and video interviews of local weavers and artisans from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Previously, Sujat has shown in group exhibitions at the Bangalore International Centre, Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta, India International Centre and the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, and has won numerous awards, including a BAFTA nomination and Chinh International Film Festival Award for ‘Unsighted Faith’ (2013), a film he directed while still in school.
