Fragrance of Flowers' delves into the cyclical journey of existence, birth, life, and death through a symbolic interplay of material and form. Comprising three panels, each adorned with a garland, the piece meditates on themes of impermanence, transition, and continuity. The use of cow dung ash, a material deeply rooted in ritual and cultural practices, signifies purification, mourning, and transformation. Garlands, often used in ceremonies of both joy and grief, act as symbols of life’s ephemeral yet recurring stages. Their positioning across the panels suggests a temporal passage, where presence and absence merge.
The ash-laden textures on the surface evoke both decay and regeneration, emphasizing the impermanence and cyclical rhythm of existence. Through the integration of organic materials and performative elements, Bhanu Srivastava offers a space for introspection, inviting viewers to reflect on memory, transience, and the sacred cycles that shape human life.
