Shaping Identities I by Lata Joshi
The subject of the painting is inspired by observation of my parents, their evolving identities, as they are growing old. My focus is on their faces, carrying multiple layers of emotions and experiences they have travelled through. The background projects the core elements of their lives, thus their core identity. While my mother seems content in her world, my father has somewhere lost his identity after retirement and can be seen finding peace by looking at her. The mountain painting and the big lemons on the table are some of the memories that they both share together as a part of their journey of shaping identities.
This artwork was exhibited at Method Kala Ghoda in the group exhibition "Nature of Us" (April/May 2025).
