Trap III by Akash Biswas
An original artwork by Akash Biswas.
At first glance, 'Trap III' appears to be abstract, but upon deeper reflection, the artwork seems to communicate the deterioration of coral reefs and the fragmentation of underwater ecosystems. The text, partially legible and smudged in various languages (English, French, Italian, etc), reflects the universal impact of ecological damage and the difficulty in articulating its urgency. The phrase “Something Wrong” appears clearly at the top — a bold declaration that sets the tone. The remaining words below are blurred, broken, and overlapping, suggesting both the confusion of understanding ecological destruction and the incompleteness of human language in expressing natural pain. The crinkled paper and burnt textures evoke decay and erosion, mirroring the destruction of coral structures over time. The earthy tones and layered collage technique further add to the sense of depth and sediment — as if this image was pulled from the ocean floor, holding the sediment of history, memory, and pain.
This artwork was exhibited at Method Delhi in the group exhibition "Formation & Fracture" a group exhibition featuring alumni from IMMERSE by Somaiya Vidyavihar University (July 2025).
