Untitled by Bhavin Patel
This sculpture addresses the ongoing agricultural land crisis in India, particularly in the context of urbanization and large-scale infrastructure development. A gun—carved from brick, a symbol of construction and urban expansion—serves as a metaphor for destruction. The bullet, sculpted from concrete and shaped like a bullet train, carries a deeper critique.
The bullet in this work is not just a projectile; it is a representation of the Indian government's ambitious bullet train project. While promoted as a marker of progress and modernization, this project has led to the acquisition of vast tracts of fertile agricultural land.
By turning a symbol of speed and development—the bullet train—into a literal weapon aimed at the farming community, the artist wants to challenge the narrative of progress that overlooks the human and environmental cost. This piece raises urgent questions about whose land, whose future, and at what price.
