Smriti by Tushar Kanoi
Smriti is a slice from my childhood, growing up in Chennai. I do not vividly remember, visually, the spaces I inhabited as a child. However, I do remember what the walls felt like when I leaned against them. I do remember what the ground felt like when I walked barefoot on it. I do remember my mother scolding me for drawing on the walls. I do remember that I always thought that country tiled roofs look like the scales of some mythical reptile, and I do remember admiring but also feeling scared of the peacock that would sometimes visit my school. Now that I am an adult, so to say, I constantly feel like the best memories of my childhood are fleeting from me. This print goes back to a time and place that only exists in glimmers in my head, and I wanted to draw it before I forget it altogether.
