Can We Talk? by Mohd. Intiyaz

Throughout his life, Intiyaz has been in the middle of various social situations and family experiences that had lasting impact on his memories and artistic sensitivity. His artwork often sheds light on crucial childhood events related to migration and marginalization. Realising many of these hardships were not unique, but often a shared reality, he started to question why injustice is overlooked as a societal norm—and why it is so hard to talk about it openly. While camouflaging high tension citizen crises, each artwork presents us with an underlying question regarding labour, production, protest, and identity.

 Empathetic by Mohd. Intiyaz

Change is inevitable.
People do change.
Many a times, we don’t realize the situation we are in, we are lost in our own world, or our in own thoughts that we forget the situation we are witnessing, but we need to change our outlook towards that.
Sometimes, at least sometime we should be little more empathetic, little more cautious about our surrounding, sometimes!

This mural addresses the difficulties involved in the activity of fetching adequate water. When I as 8 year old me and my family were renting a place in Delhi. At that time we didn’t have water supply connection. We used to get our necessary water from mu- nicipal water tank. The people in the queues were desperate and vicious, because water is limited and people, endless. I remember an incident where I was in queue with my bucket, and a woman threw my bucket away just because I was a renter.

Sometimes when there is a water shortage and there is no water at home, my whole family will be upset all day about how to get work done that day, and this thing will be on everyone’s mind throughout the day. People from slums are always called shortsighted. But when your basic needs are not filled you are stressed till you can fulfill them, and worry that you can also fulfill them in the next few days too.

Life is like a circle. It seems that the place where we stand now is the beginning and where we take give up, is the end. It feels like an endless journey.

Every human lives on the basis of memories, they keep them and try to remove some as soon as possible. There was a time when we were all went through a phase. Many people faced troubles in that period. Their sorrows are the greatest but we all saw humanity dying. This has led to spot that can never be forgotten.

In My Stret (Set of 4) by Mohd Intiyaz

I have beautiful memories of my childhood, from the be- ginning of my adolescence. I started observing the ways of society and those around me and tried to be responsible for my actions toward others. In this series, I share a few of these memories. Where I live today, there is a mixture of culture and religion, bringing together all kinds of people. Sometimes there are festivals, with a variety of food vendors selling to those attending the festival. In one of these pan- els, I am paying homage to a memory from a past festival. I am carrying balloons to sell, for my family was facing great economical issues at the time. I needed to sell balloons to support my family, but I felt the shame of what I was doing, so I hid my face with the balloons. This was not easy, and I remember I struggled with my siblings to find happiness even in the small things.
