Formed as an outlet for frustration, anger, hopelessness, satire and love, EXCISE DEPT emerged in the wake of the nationwide lockdown in 2020 via multidisciplinary artists Karanjit Singh, Rounak Maiti, Siddhant Vetekar and Andrew Sabu.

The collective’s music is euphoric and genreless, narrated through multilingual lyrics in Punjabi, Bengali, Hindi & English. Its portrayal through bold visual aesthetics––including docu-fiction music videos, short films, and a mixed-media website––has quickly made them a singular artistic presence in the South Asian landscape.

Embracing a mutual adoration of messiness, EXCISE DEPT showcases a mindset not unknown to most Indians; one that has reckoned with extreme isolation, death and conflict in our personal lives, on the internet, and our country. Following the release of a few beloved singles like “EAT AN AAM” and “BILLO” from 2021-23, their highly anticipated debut album “SAB KUCH MIL GAYA MUJHE VOL. 1” was released on August 15, 2024. The album and its blend of folk, experimental and hip-hop music were celebrated with two sold-out shows in New Delhi and Mumbai.
