Fragments of a Past II Avani Bakaya
This painting is a part of a series on my grandparents and their move to Delhi during the pandemic. The painting is about my Nani, it shows faded images of a spine and pelvis merging into the tile, reminiscent of her days as a fulltime doctor. No longer in Kanpur, Nani floats in her most comfortable kaftan, dreaming of when she can return. She attempts to fill the void by keeping up with patients remotely, and bi-weekly charity clinic visits but the latticed door is a metaphor for a doorway to the past that is inaccessible.
This artwork was exhibited at Method Delhi in the group exhibition "Fresh Produce" (January 2025).
