This artwork, a photograph titled Rie by Aashim Tyagi, taken in Japan in 2023, presents a captivating blend of motion and stillness against a richly detailed mural. The photograph captures a moment of juxtaposition, where a woman stands still while blurred figures pass by, embodying the ephemeral nature of time and movement. The backdrop, a mural featuring surreal, nature-infused figures, symbolizes harmony with the environment, a theme often emphasized in Japanese art and culture.

The use of blurred motion creates a visual metaphor for the fleeting nature of existence, contrasting the stationary subject, who appears almost calm, poised and rooted in the moment.

An original photograph by Aashim Tyagi, part of Nihon Katsu Sando, a collection of street photographs made in Japan in 2023.
