Akash Biswas
Akash Biswas is an artist originally from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Surrounded by the vast ocean and rich natural life, his early connection with the underwater world and coastal landscapes deeply influences his artistic vision. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, and pursued his Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Though he studied on the mainland, his creative roots remain grounded in his island home. Akash’s practice is a response to the environmental and cultural shifts unfolding in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands—coral degradation, overfishing, changing coastlines, and the pressure of development. These challenges not only threaten marine ecosystems but also the delicate balance of life that thrives beneath the waves. Through his art, he attempts to archive and evoke the silent stories of the ocean—its fading corals, entangled fishing nets, and the slow disappearance of biodiversity. Nature, particularly underwater life, forms the heart of his work. Each piece becomes a visual meditation on loss, resilience, and the urgent need for harmony between development and ecology
